Understand NYC's Building Emissions Law and Get Help from CTI
In 2024, a carbon emissions cap will be placed on buildings larger than 25,000 sq. ft. The cap will determine the building’s annual emittance of carbon.
Most buildings over 25,000 gross square feet that exceed emissions limits will face fines.
Building owners will be fined every year they miss the carbon emissions targets.
2025 fines will be based on 2024 usage.
The fines increase and the emissions caps reduce every 5 years through 2050.
By 2050, the New York City’s goal is to reach net-zero Green House Gases.
CTI will help you cut your building’s carbon emissions and energy costs, comply with LL97 on time, and avoid annual fines.
Nearly 70% of NYC’s carbon emissions come from the fossil fuels used to heat, cool, and power our buildings. Local Law 97 (LL97) is part of the city’s plan to address these emissions and make NYC carbon neutral by 2050.
